Replacing /l/ sounds with /y/

Author:

From: B.F. – My son is 3, speaks very well but struggles with L words, usually replacing it with a /y/.

Hey and welcome to our community questions hub. Beth, speech pathologist, here!

It sounds like an age-appropriate error on the surface level, without any other info! Three year olds are generally starting to use the ‘L’ sound but its still common to glide to ‘w’ or ‘y.’

As usual, this is general advice only. If you have serious concerns, or would like a more specific answer it it’s best to have contact with a speech pathologist for assessment as opposed to a ‘wait and see approach.’
